Summer

English

This term in English, we are reading Stone Age Boy. The children will explore the story through reading, discussion, vocabulary work, and writing activities. We will focus on developing descriptive writing, using ambitious vocabulary, improving sentence structure, and building inference skills through the text.

Reading

In Reading, we will continue developing comprehension skills using VIPERS (Vocabulary, Inference, Prediction, Explanation, Retrieval and Summarising). Children will practise answering comprehension questions using evidence from the text and explaining their ideas clearly. Please continue to encourage regular reading at home.

Maths

This term in Maths, we will be learning about fractions, mass and capacity, money, time, and shape, alongside continuing to develop arithmetic skills. The children will practise calculation methods, reasoning, and problem-solving to build fluency and confidence in maths.

Times Tables

We will continue to focus on times tables fluency through regular TTRS practice in school. Please remind your child to practise their times tables regularly at home, as quick recall is essential for many areas of maths learning.

Science

In Science, we are learning about light. The children will investigate different light sources, how shadows are formed, and how light helps us to see. We will carry out practical investigations and develop scientific enquiry skills throughout the topic.

History

In History, we are studying the Stone Age to the Iron Age. Children will learn about how people lived during these periods, including homes, tools, farming, and daily life. We will explore how Britain changed over time and compare life in the past with today.

RE

In RE, we are learning about Pentecost. The children will explore why Pentecost is important to Christians and learn about the story of the Holy Spirit coming to the disciples. We will discuss themes such as courage, faith, and community.

As part of our learning, we visited Creswell Crags. During the trip, we became archaeologists and carefully explored artefacts and animal bones to discover what life was like in prehistoric Britain. We worked together to piece skeletons back together and were fascinated to discover the remains of a lion, fox, and a small hyena. We also explored Robin Hood’s Cave and saw the incredible cave surroundings where prehistoric people once lived. In the museum, we learnt more about Stone Age life, hunting, tools, animals, and how archaeologists use evidence to understand the past. Please see the photographs from our wonderful trip to Creswell Crags attached below.
