🎉 Hello and welcome to Purple Class, Year 6! 🎉
I’m Miss Banton, and I have the absolute joy of teaching our amazing Year 6 Purple Class, alongside the wonderful Mrs Armstrong, who helps us learn, grow, and shine every single day!
This year, we’ll be challenging our minds and discovering new knowledge across all subjects:
📚 Literacy Legends
Linking closely with our history topic, pupils will be writing a chronological report exploring how crime and punishment has changed throughout history. This unit will focus on organising information clearly and using appropriate non-fiction features.
➕ Mathematical Masters
Throughout the spring term, children will develop and apply a range of mathematical skills. Learning will include:
Ratio
Algebra
Fractions, decimals and percentages
Area, perimeter and volume
Statistics
Pupils will be encouraged to reason mathematically and apply their learning to problem-solving activities.
🕰️ History Adventures
Our history topic this term is Crime and Punishment. Pupils will investigate how crimes, laws and punishments have changed over time and how attitudes towards justice have evolved. As part of our history unit, we will be going to the National Justice Museum in Nottingham, which will bring this topic to life through real historical settings and experiences.
🌍 Geography Explorers
After half-term, pupils will study the distribution of natural resources, exploring where resources are found around the world and why they are not evenly distributed.
🔬 Super Scientists
During the first half of the Spring term, pupils will study animals, including humans, learning about life cycles, nutrition and the human body.
After half-term, the focus will move to light, where children will explore how light travels, how we see, and how shadows are formed.
🙏 Reflective RE Thinkers
In the first half of the term, pupils will explore the big question: How can following God bring freedom and justice? Children will consider how religious beliefs can influence behaviour and promote fairness and responsibility.
In the second half of the term, learning will focus on: What did Jesus do to save human beings? This unit explores key Christian beliefs and the significance of Jesus’ life and teachings.
🎨 Artistic Explorers
This half-term, pupils will study birds as inspiration for sculpture. They will design and create a wire bird sculpture, developing their understanding of shape, structure and form.
⚙️ D&T Engineers
In the second half of the spring term, children will take part in a Design and Technology project where they will design and build a marble run, using a range of materials to develop their planning, construction and evaluation skills.
💻 Computing Champions
We’ll dive into the world of computer systems and networks, discovering how devices communicate, how data travels, and how technology connects us all. By the end of the year, we’ll be confident digital detectives, understanding the systems that power our modern world!
Fantastic French
We’ll explore the French language through speaking, listening, reading, and writing, building our vocabulary and confidence. From everyday conversations to fun cultural discoveries, we’ll become confident French speakers ready to take on new challenges!
I’m so excited for all the learning, laughter, and achievements we’ll share this year. Let’s make it an unforgettable journey—let’s go, Purple Class! 🚀✨
