Blue Class (Year 5)

 Welcome to Year 5 . We are Mrs Harvey, Mr Redmond and the wonderful Mrs Armstrong.

This Year we will be exploring lots of interesting topics, which we will be exploring researching and writing about.

History

We will be immersing ourselves in World War 2 , exploring how, when and why the war started. We will  look at the vehicles and aircraft, additionally we will try a few recipes.

Science

We will be exploring Forces and conducting various experiments.

Literacy

We are reading Letters to the Lighthouse and that is a driving text for our topic. The children will be writing letters, writing narratives and creating information text around the World War 2 topic. We’ll build brilliant sentences and paragraphs, using ambitious vocabulary, and master the magic of Rainbow Grammar—which our children are already experts at!

Maths

This term we will be focusing on place value. This is the foundation for mathematics. The children will focus on embedding this and using it to support their learning in maths. Additionally, we will do lots of times tables practise and TTR activities.  We will also do a weekly arithmetic and build on any gaps to scaffold our learning across all areas in the Y5 maths curriculum. Confidence building is one of the most important things in maths and we would like to promote this during this year.

RE

We will be focussing on Loyalty. Topics will include, evolution, monarchy, the Ten Commandments and various stories from both the New and the Old Testement.

PSHE

We will be looking at being me in the World and what makes me unique.
